Health Insurance Answer Guy
The Insurance Lead Generation Process
How all of this affects you and your efforts
Okay, you really did fill out the information sheet and clicked the "submit" button ( noooo...say it ain't so! ). The health insurance lead is instantly sent (real time) to any insurance agent who subscribes to that type of lead in your particular area.
Your lead will cost an agent anywhere from a few dollars upwards to $30 or more.
Inexpensive leads are "non- exclusive" leads
These leads are sold as "A" leads (new "qualified" leads) to any agent who subscribes to that lead generation service. There can be 10 or more salespeople that will have any one lead depending on the demographics, population density, and popularity of any given area.
Expensive leads are normally "exclusive" leads
This means any salesperson willing to pay a steeper price, and not wanting any competition, has the sole right to that lead. Some exclusive rights to leads last for just a few weeks, others are permanent. Can you imagine? Some agents will spend over one thousand dollars PER WEEK on leads!
But, if an agent writes five or ten thousand dollars per week in monthly premium it's a great investment. Think how much businesses spend on advertising per day, per week and per MONTH... just to put it in perspective.
Here's what happens next.
If, after a period of time the customer hasn't been sold ( that's you ), those unsold "leads" are then placed back in a "pool" and are RE-sold for a lesser price, generally called a "B" lead. So, back into the mix it goes for another round of calls. Even though the original agent never sold you in the FIRST round of calls doesn't mean another won't the next time through. Agents hold on to those leads for days, weeks and months... sometimes years.
Here's an important point about "leads" and your personal info...
Many agents aren't careful at ALL with your information. You'll find your information strewn about cars, on kitchen tables, desks, thrown in trash cans, etc.
After all, they are only leads...right? Yes they are... with personal information all over them!
Alright, I know, I know, that was real cynical of me. Moving right along...
If they haven't been able to reach you or sit down with you, they will sometimes swap leads or sell them for pennies on the dollar to other salespeople.
That lead then becomes someone else's fresh lead.
You get the idea...
Once again a good reason for some people to buy health insurance online
